Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, October 22, 2023

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are making progress toward our goal for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal! Thank you to everyone who has already submitted your pledge, and for those who have not, thank you for prayerfully considering the way that the Lord is calling you to sacrificial generosity in support of the local Church. The Annual Bishop’s Appeal is critical for the financial health not only of our Diocese but also of our parish. After receiving the final results from last year’s Appeal, we met and exceeded our goal by a substantial amount. The amount contributed above our goal supported the renovation of our new parish office building, which will be opening soon. If everyone works together, we will have no problem doing so again. Our most important target is to have 100% participation!

Our parish school and other schools in the area are on Fall Break this week, but we will still have a busy week as we get ready for many young people in our parish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday evening and Saturday morning. Please pray that these young people will be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit that the Lord wants to give them in this sacrament.

Due to the rehearsals on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and the Confirmations on Friday evening and Saturday morning, the only regularly scheduled confessions this week will be Tuesday – Friday morning and Thursday evening (at which you can expect longer than normal lines). I would recommend taking advantage of the opportunities for confession at the other parishes in the area this week if you are desiring to go to confession. Confirmandi and their parents and godparents should take advantage of the confession opportunities after the Confirmation rehearsals out of consideration for everyone else who might still want to come at our regularly-scheduled times.

Recent read: Richard John Neuhaus: A life in the public square by Randy Boyagoda. A couple years ago I started reading biographies as my bedtime reading. This one is about Fr. Richard John Neuhaus, who founded the First Things magazine/journal and was a famous convert to Catholicism from Lutheranism.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Gracias a todos los que ya han presentado su promesa, y los que no lo han hecho, gracias por considerar en oración la manera en el que el Señor los está llamando a la generosidad sacrificial en apoyo de la Iglesia local. La Apelación Anual del Obispo es fundamental para la salud financiera no solo de nuestra Diócesis sino también de nuestra parroquia. Después de recibir los resultados finales de la Apelación del año pasado, cumplimos y superamos nuestra meta por primera vez en muchos años. La cantidad aportada por encima de nuestra meta apoyó la renovación de nuestro nuevo edificio de oficinas parroquiales, que se abrirá pronto. Si todos trabajan juntos, no tendremos ningún problema en hacerlo de nuevo. ¡Nuestro objetivo más importante es tener el 100% de participación! Todos tenemos un papel que desempeñar en el apoyo a nuestra Iglesia.

Nuestra escuela parroquial y otras escuelas en el área están en las vacaciones de otoño esta semana, pero todavía tendremos una semana ocupada mientras nos preparamos para que muchos jóvenes de nuestra parroquia reciban el Sacramento de la Confirmación el viernes por la noche y el sábado por la mañana. Por favor oren para que estos jóvenes estén abiertos a los dones del Espíritu Santo que el Señor quiere darles en este sacramento.

Debido a los ensayos los martes y miércoles por la noche, y las confirmaciones el viernes por la noche y el sábado por la mañana, las únicas confesiones programadas regularmente esta semana serán de martes a viernes por la mañana y jueves por la noche (en las que se puede esperar más tiempo de lo normal). Yo recomendaría aprovechar las oportunidades para la confesión en las otras parroquias de la zona esta semana si usted está deseando ir a la confesión. Los confirmandos y sus padres y padrinos deben aprovechar las oportunidades de confesión después de los ensayos de confirmación por consideración a todos los demás que aún quieran venir en nuestros horarios regulares.
