Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, November 20th

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Happy Solemnity of Christ the King! This modern feast was established during a time of great turbulence in the Church in the early 20th Century with the intention of re-establishing the centrality of Christ in the public life of the Christian world. It is an important reminder that our faith is never merely a private matter, but that God desires us to recognize the Lordship of Christ in our lives, and for our societies and countries to recognize His Lordship as well.

We are making progress on our plans for the new office building. The committee has met with the parish staff to identify their needs and is determining the best use of the space and the repairs and renovations that need to be done. We hope to make the move in the spring of next year. You may have noticed the “coming soon” sign on the new building!

Speaking of the new office building, there are 11 parking spots adjacent to the building accessible through the CVS lot that are now ours and can be used for Sunday Mass. They currently have signs stating, “Insurance agency parking only.” Please do not use any other spots in the CVS lot, and please exercise caution when crossing Main Street. It is very important for us to be good neighbors as CVS is currently maintaining our parking spots for us.

Do your plans for Thanksgiving include giving thanks to almighty God? I am always so edified by the participation in Holy Mass at St. John’s on Thanksgiving Day. Our Mass in Spanish at 11 a.m. is always standing-room-only – it would be great if the English Mass were too! We all have so much for which to give thanks to God and there is no better way to begin this day of thankfulness.

Thank you to everyone who has made a pledge on behalf of our parish to the Annual Bishop’s Appeal! We are very close to meeting our goal of $75,000, but we have a way to go to meet our more important goal – 100 percent participation. If you have not yet made your pledge, go online right away to make yours: diocesefwsb.org/aba. Meeting and exceeding our goal will give us some extra money to support the refurbishment of our new parish office building and keep us from having to dip into our savings. Thank you for your commitment and your generosity!

Recent read: Dobbs vs. Jackson. This was the first time I had ever read a Supreme Court decision, and I figured that the most important decision of my lifetime was the place to start. I was rather surprised at how readable it was.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

¡Feliz solemnidad de Cristo Rey! Esta fiesta moderna se estableció durante un tiempo de gran turbulencia en la Iglesia a principios del siglo 20th con la intención de restablecer la centralidad de Cristo en la vida pública del mundo cristiano. Es un recordatorio importante de que nuestra fe nunca es meramente un asunto privado, sino que Dios desea que reconozcamos el Señorío de Cristo en nuestras vidas, y que nuestras sociedades y países reconozcan también Su Señorío.

Estamos avanzando en nuestros planes para el nuevo edificio de oficinas. El comité se ha reunido con el personal de la parroquia para identificar sus necesidades y está determinando el mejor uso del espacio y las reparaciones y renovaciones que deben hacerse. Esperamos mudarnos en la primavera del próximo año. ¡Usted puede haber notado el cartel “Próximamente” en el nuevo edificio!

Hablando del nuevo edificio de oficinas, hay 11 lugares de estacionamiento al lado del edificio a las que se puede acceder a través del terreno de la farmacia CVS que ahora es nuestro y que se puede utilizar para los domingos. Actualmente tienen carteles que dicen "Solo estacionamiento de la agencia de seguros". Por favor, no utilice ningún otro lugar en el lote CVS, y por favor tenga cuidado al cruzar Main Street. Es muy importante para nosotros ser buenos vecinos, ya que CVS actualmente mantiene nuestros lugares de estacionamiento para nosotros.

¿Sus planes para el Día de Acción de Gracias incluyen dar gracias a Dios todopoderoso? Siempre estoy tan edificado por la participación en la Santa Misa en San Juan el Día de Acción de Gracias. Nuestra misa en español a las 11 a.m. se llena y muchos se quedan de pie, ¡sería genial si la misa en inglés fuera también! Todos tenemos mucho por lo que dar gracias a Dios y no hay mejor manera de comenzar este día de agradecimiento.

Estamos muy cerca de alcanzar nuestro objetivo de $75,000, pero tenemos un objetivo más importante: Una participación del 100%.
