Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, Nov. 15

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thank you for your prayers for me while on my retreat last week! It was a much needed time to re-connect with the Lord and deepen my friendship with Him. I focused on His real presence in the Eucharist through meditations by St. Alphonsus Liguori, one of the great spiritual masters.

Thank you to everyone who has generously made a pledge toward the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. We are so close to meeting our goal. If you have not yet made a pledge, please help us make this the year that we make it over the finish line! Meeting and exceeding our goal will help us to make up for our pandemic-related deficit, which continues to increase at a rate of ~$4,000 per week.

Every year the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is observed by many people as “Giving Tuesday” – this year, Tuesday, December 1. St. John’s will participate this year through iGiveCatholic.org. You can sign up on their website to be a fundraising partner and help spread the word. Just go to iGiveCatholic.org and search for St. John the Evangelist under Diocese of Fort Wayne – South Bend. We will be sharing more via email and social media, so please help us spread the word!

[English only] Recent read: When a Loved One Dies by Suicide edited by Ed Shoener and John P. Dolan. Related to last Sunday’s “recent read,” this book is aimed at the families who have lost a loved one to suicide. If you have experienced such a loss in your family, among your friends, or someone you admire in the community (which would probably include almost all of us) I recommend reading it. It is short and very approachable. It would also be helpful for knowing how to approach the topic of suicide when someone you care about loses one of their loved ones in this way.

¡Gracias por sus oraciones para mí mientras estaba en mi retiro la semana pasada! Fue un tiempo muy necesario para reconectar con el Señor y profundizar mi amistad con Él.
