Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, May 8th

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Congratulations to the students from our Spanish language catechesis program and our parish school who received their first Holy Communion yesterday! We should be inspired by the love and devotion that the children have for our Eucharistic Lord and imitate their innocent piety. Our goal should be for every holy Communion to be made with more and more fervor.

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, on May 29th, we will suspend the 3 p.m. Mass in Spanish for the summer. This does not mean, though, that Sunday Mass is any less important during the summer! We expect there will be higher attendance at our other Sunday Masses without students being in class from 1-2:30 p.m. If you are traveling, you can always find Mass wherever you will be at Masstimes.org. This website even has schedules for many churches for confession, adoration, and other devotions. With catechesis classes being over now, Father Parrish and I are interviewing the second year Confirmation students. It is great to see how much they have learned and how they have grown as disciples of Jesus.

Registrations are open for our religious education classes and our parish school, both exclusively online. If you have a child in preschool through sixth grade, the Catholic education our parish school provides will be an immense treasure for your family. Please call our office to learn more about how a Catholic education can benefit your child and family and how it can be very affordable.

The late spring and summer bring many celebrations in the lives of many of our parish families. Father Parrish and I are always humbled and honored by the desire of so many for us to take part in their celebrations. We love being a part of your lives! We also make plans in advance, though, so should you want to invite us to a celebration, we are more likely to be able to attend if that invitation comes well in advance.

Recent read: One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn. This author was one of the foremost anti-Soviet dissidents in 20th century Russia. This first full published work of his was the first glimpse the Russian public received of the brutal oppression of Stalinism. I read this and some other books about Russian and Soviet autocracy in the lead-up to the invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

¡Felicidades a los estudiantes del programa de catequesis en español y de la escuela parroquial que ayer recibieron su Primera Comunión! Debemos inspirarnos en el amor y la devoción que los niños tienen por nuestro Señor Eucarístico e imitar su piedad inocente. Nuestro objetivo debe ser que cada santa comunión se haga con más y más fervor.

Comenzando el fin de semana de Memorial Day, el 29 de mayo, suspenderemos la Misa de 3 p.m. en español por el verano. ¡Sin embargo, esto no significa que la Misa dominical sea menos importante durante el verano! Esperamos que haya una mayor asistencia a nuestras otras Misas dominicales sin que los estudiantes estén en clase de 1 a las 2:30 p.m. Si viaja, siempre puede encontrar Misa donde quiera que esté en Masstimes.org. Incluso este sitio web tiene horarios de muchas iglesias para la confesión, adoración y otras devociones. Con las clases de catequesis ya terminadas, el Padre Parrish y yo estamos entrevistando a los estudiantes de Confirmación de segundo año. Es genial ver cuánto han aprendido y cómo han crecido como discípulos de Jesús.

Las inscripciones están abiertas para las clases catequesis (educación religiosa) y la escuela parroquial, ambas exclusivamente en línea. Si tiene un hijo en preescolar hasta sexto grado, la educación católica que ofrece nuestra escuela parroquial será un inmenso tesoro para su familia. Por favor llame a la oficina para obtener más información sobre cómo una educación católica puede beneficiar a su hijo y familia y cómo puede ser muy económico.

El final de la primavera y el verano traen muchas celebraciones en la vida de muchas de las familias parroquiales. El Padre Parrish y yo nos sentimos siempre honrados y humildes por el deseo de que participemos tantos de sus celebraciones. ¡Nos encanta ser parte de sus vidas! Sin embargo, también hacemos planes con anticipación, por lo que si desea invitarnos a una celebración, es más probable que podamos asistir si esa invitación llega con mucha anticipación.
