Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, June 27th

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We are very excited to welcome Fr. Logan Parrish this week as our new parochial vicar! He will be greeting people after Masses today and then we will have an ice cream social to welcome him on Sunday, July 11th at 2 p.m.

Tuesday is the Solemnity of Ss. Peter and Paul. In many countries this is a Holy Day of Obligation. It is a favorite feast of mine since Ss. Peter and Paul are the patrons of Rome. In addition to our regular Mass times, I will serve as deacon for a Solemn Mass in the Extraordinary Form at St. Joseph Parish in Mishawaka at 7 p.m. It would be great to see some familiar faces! It has been great for our parish to participate in this liturgical cooperative with other parishes in the area. We are looking at scheduling another Solemn Mass in July at St. Monica’s, and then we will be back to St. John’s in August or September.

Next Sunday is July 4th. We look forward to asking for the Lord’s continued blessings on our country at Holy Mass. Our regular Sunday schedule will be in place. Since Monday the 5th is the official observance of Independence Day this year, we will have our normal holiday schedule on the 5th – one Mass in English at 9 a.m., preceded by confessions from 8:30 – 8:50 a.m.

I’m looking forward to our parish coming together for the county fair parking initiative again this year. Have you signed up for your shift(s) yet?

Recent read: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. This classic is incredibly relevant to our current social situation.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

¡Estamos muy emocionados de dar la bienvenida al P. Logan Parrish esta semana como el nuevo vicario parroquial! Hoy él estará saludando a la gente después de las Misas y luego tendremos una recepción de helado social para darle la bienvenida el domingo 11 de julio a las 2 p.m.

El martes es la Solemnidad de San Pedro y San Pablo. En muchos países este es un día santo de obligación. Es mi fiesta favorita ya que San Pedro y San Pablo son los patrones de Roma. Además de nuestros horarios regulares de Misa, serviré como diácono para una Misa Solemne en la forma extraordinaria en la parroquia de San José en Mishawaka a las 7 p.m. ¡Sería genial ver algunas caras conocidas! Ha sido fenomenal para nuestra parroquia participar en esta cooperativa litúrgica con otras parroquias de la zona. Estamos buscando programar otra Misa Solemne en julio en Santa Mónica, y luego volveremos a San Juan en agosto o septiembre.

El próximo domingo es 4 de julio. Hay que pedirle al Señor las continuas bendiciones en nuestro país en la Santa Misa. Nuestro horario regular de domingo estará en su lugar. Dado que el lunes 5 es la celebración oficial del Día de la Independencia de este año, tendremos nuestro horario normal de vacaciones el día 5, una Misa en inglés a las 9 a.m., precedida por confesiones de 8:30 a 8:50 a.m.

Deseo con ansias convivir juntos como una parroquia en el estacionamiento de la feria del condado nuevamente este año. ¿Ya te has inscrito en tu(s) turno(s)?
