Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, February 21, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Thank you so much to everyone who has turned in their commitment for our “Restoring All Things in Christ” campaign! Our goal is to have each and every one of our parishioners and families working together to accomplish our mission to be and make disciples, so if you have not yet turned in your commitment please do so soon! We excited for our Lenten Series starting this Tuesday, February 23rd. During this year of St. Joseph, in honor of the 150th anniversary of his declaration as Universal Patron of the Church, we will be focusing on how St. Joseph is a model for the Christian life and how we can grow in devotion to this great saint. We are excited to explore the following topics: 1) What St. Joseph teaches us about prayer. 2) St. Joseph’s relationship with Mary and how he can teach us to grow in devotion to our Blessed Mother. 3) The fatherhood of St. Joseph and lessons for earthly fatherhood. 4) St. Joseph and the sanctification of work. 5) St. Joseph, terror of demons. We look forward to seeing you this Tuesday for our first session! The Spanish track starts at 6 p.m. with Mass in the church and the English track starts at 6:30 p.m. in the gym.

I also heartily encourage you to make Stations of the Cross a part of your Lenten devotions. I remember how as a child my parents brought me to this devotion every Friday in Lent. Meditating on all that Jesus suffered for my sins made a very big impression on me and really impressed upon me the depths of God’s love for us. I would especially encourage families to bring their children. If you’re not able to come to church for the Stations, maybe you could pray them at home. You can find the traditional meditations of St. Alphonsus Ligouri online for free.

Tomorrow we already get a break from Lent with the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter. This feast day honors the authority of St. Peter, the first pope, as well as his successors. Remember to pray for our Holy Father, Pope Francis, tomorrow, asking that the Lord will make him a faithful and worthy successor of St. Peter.

On a more personal note, I am excited for the engagement of my sister, Emily, who will be married this October. Please pray for her and her fiancée, Matthew, as they prepare to receive the holy Sacrament of Matrimony. I am blessed to have a close and loving relationship with my sister, so I am very excited for her. Our family is particularly hopeful that they will choose to make Indiana their home after several years of her living in Pennsylvania. May the Lord’s will be done!

Recent read: The Roman Martyrology. This book records all of the canonized saints who are commemorated each year, including those who do not have a feast day on the calendar. I read each day’s entry most days.

Muchas gracias a todos los que han entregado su compromiso por nuestra campaña "Instaurar todas las cosas en Cristo"! Estamos emocionamos por nuestra Serie Camino Cuaresmal que comienza este martes, 23 de febrero. Durante este año de San José, en honor al 150 aniversario de su declaración como Patrono Universal de la Iglesia, nos centraremos en cómo San José es un modelo para la vida cristiana y cómo podemos crecer en la devoción a este gran santo. Estamos encantados de explorar los siguientes temas: 1) Lo que San José nos enseña acerca de la oración. 2) La relación de San José con María y cómo puede enseñarnos a crecer en devoción a nuestra Santísima Madre. 3) La paternidad de San José y las lecciones para la paternidad terrenal. 4) San José y la santificación del trabajo. 5) San José, terror de demonios. ¡Esperamos verlos este martes para la primer sesión! El curso en español comienza a las 6 p.m. con la Misa en la iglesia y el curso en inglés comienza a las 6:30 p.m. en el gimnasio.

También los animo de corazón a hacer las Estaciones de la Cruz una parte de vuestras devociones cuaresmales. Recuerdo cómo de niño mis padres me llevaban a esta devoción todos los viernes de Cuaresma. Meditando en todo lo que Jesús sufrió por mis pecados me impresionó mucho y realmente me impresionó las profundidades del amor de Dios por nosotros. Alentaría especialmente a las familias a traer a sus hijos. Si no puedes venir a la iglesia para las Estaciones, tal vez podrías rezarlas en casa. Mañana ya tenemos un descanso de la Cuaresma con la fiesta de la Cátedra de San Pedro. Este día de fiesta honra la autoridad de San Pedro, el primer Papa, así como sus sucesores. Recuerda orar por nuestro Santo Padre, el Papa Francisco, mañana, pidiendo que el Señor lo convierta en un sucesor fiel y digno de San Pedro.

En una nota más personal, estoy emocionado por el compromiso de mi hermana, Emilyque se casará este octubre. Por favor oren por ella y por su prometida, Matthew, mientras se preparan para recibir el santo Sacramento del Matrimonio. Tengo la bendición de tener una relación cercana y amorosa con mi hermana, así que estoy muy emocionado por ella. Nuestra familia está particularmente esperanzada de que elijan hacer de Indiana su hogar después de varios años de su vida en Pensilvania. ¡Qué se haga la voluntad del Señor!
