Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, February 20th, 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The theme for this year’s renewal of our sacrificial generosity comes from the purpose of parish as reflected in our parish’s priority plan: “To be disciples and make disciples of Jesus Christ in His Church; to bring His hope, truth, and glory to our community.” Through this campaign, you are supporting our parish’s critical efforts to bring to life the Gospel around us:

· The world need Hope: Sustaining a strong community of faith brings hope to the many dark places in our world. Our sacrificial generosity is an expression of our hope and trust in God.

· The world needs Truth: Jesus Christ said that “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Your support of our parish helps us proclaim the truth of who God is, who the human person is, and why we are here in the first place to a world that will otherwise not hear the truth without the heroic witness of the Catholic Church.

· The world needs God’s Glory: Through beautiful worship of Christ present in the Eucharist, supporting our parish enables us to lift our hearts and minds beyond earthly reality and open up the gates of Heaven to believers each time we encounter Christ in the Holy Mass.

All of this continues to happen because of your generosity. In order to continue being and making disciples at St. John the Evangelist Parish, I am asking you to take an active and prayerful part in “Proclaiming His Truth, Hope, and Glory,” our commitment to sacrificial generosity. A big thank you to our lay witnesses who spoke to us today at Mass: Michael Mascola and Eduardo and Lilly Alvarez! Their example of faith is inspiring for all of us and I hope that their witness encourages us all to support our parish.

National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly Spring 2021. This issue included articles on: Intravenous substance use, the foundations of sexual ethics, stem cell lines and the COVID vaccines, embryo “adoption,” motherhood, euthanasia, and health care for those struggling with gender identity.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

El tema para la renovación de este año de nuestra generosidad sacrificial proviene del propósito de la parroquia como se refleja en el plan de prioridades de nuestra parroquia: “Ser discípulos y hacer discípulos de Jesucristo en Su Iglesia; para traer Su esperanza, verdad y gloria a nuestra comunidad”. A través de esta campaña, usted está apoyando los esfuerzos críticos de nuestra parroquia para dar vida al Evangelio que nos rodea:

· El mundo necesita esperanza: Sostener una comunidad fuerte de fe trae esperanza a los muchos lugares oscuros del mundo. La generosidad sacrificial es una expresión de nuestra esperanza y confianza en Dios.

· El mundo necesita la Verdad: Jesucristo dijo “Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida”. Su apoyo a nuestra parroquia nos ayuda a proclamar la verdad de quién es Dios, quién es la persona humana, y por qué estamos aquí, en primer lugar, en un mundo que de otra manera no escuchará la verdad sin el testimonio heroico de la Iglesia Católica.

· El mundo necesita la Gloria de Dios: A través de la hermosa adoración de Cristo presente en la Eucaristía, apoyar a nuestra parroquia nos permite elevar nuestros corazones y mentes más allá de la realidad terrenal y abrir las puertas del Cielo a los creyentes cada vez que nos encontramos con Cristo en la Santa Misa.

Todo esto sigue sucediendo gracias a su generosidad.
