Pastor's Weekly Update: Sunday, April 24th

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Our celebration of the Lord’s Resurrection continues as we celebrate the Octave Day of Easter. This is the Sunday of many names. Probably the most ancient name associated with this day is Dominica in Albis Deponendis – the Sunday of putting aside the white garments, which refers to how the neophytes baptized at the Easter Vigil would wear their white baptismal garments to Mass every day through the Octave until this Sunday. In more recent times, the Roman Missal refers to today as “The Second Sunday of Easter, or Divine Mercy Sunday,” in reference to a modern devotion popularized in large part by St. John Paul II.

Easter is not just an event to remember but a reality to continue living in our lives. The Easter season will continue for 50 days, just as Christ remained on the earth for 50 days, appearing to His disciples and giving them the commission to evangelize, until His ascension into Heaven. The 50-day joy of Easter should be lived just as intensely as the 40-day preparation of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving during Lent.

Speaking of Octave of Easter celebrations, I am grateful to the Welcoming Committee for the very enjoyable Trivia Night yesterday evening! And thank you to everyone who supported the great work they do in our parish. We should all see ourselves as honorary members of the “welcoming committee,” working to make our parish an even more welcoming and loving place for visitors and parishioners alike.

A great celebration today for our parish: We announced that we are purchasing a new organ! I can’t adequately put into words how excited I am for this project, which has been the culmination of a lot of work over the past few years. It will be installed by September. You are going to be amazed! After 52 years, our old organ has survived over twice the expected life of an electronic organ, and no longer produces the quality of sound that it was made for. Furthermore, our parish music program – always a point of great pride for our parish – has grown incredibly in the past four years, becoming truly one of the very best of any Catholic parish in the entire state. It’s time for our organ to support that quality as well.

One last great piece of news: Our parish will host a seminarian for the first time in several years this summer, Mr. Caleb Kruse. I look forward to introducing him to you! He will be here May 13th until early August.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Nuestra celebración de la Resurrección del Señor continúa mientras celebramos el Día de la Octava de Pascua. Este es el domingo de muchos nombres. Probablemente el nombre más antiguo asociado con este día es Dominica en Albis Deponendis – el domingo de dejar de lado las prendas blancas que se refiere a cómo los bautizados neófitos de la Vigilia Pascual usaban sus vestiduras bautismales blancas para la Misa todos los días a durante la Octava hasta este domingo. En tiempos más recientes, el Misal Romano se refiere hoy como “El Segundo Domingo de Pascua, o Domingo de la Divina Misericordia”, en referencia a una devoción moderna popularizada en gran parte por San Juan Pablo II.

La Pascua no es sólo un acontecimiento que recordar, sino una realidad para seguir viviendo en nuestras vidas. La temporada de Pascua continuará por 50 días, así como Cristo permaneció en la tierra durante 50 días, Apareciendo a sus discípulos y dándoles la comisión de evangelizar, hasta su ascensión al Cielo. La alegría de 50 días de Pascua debe ser vivida tan intensamente como la preparación de 40 días de oración, ayuno y limosna durante la Cuaresma.

Una gran celebración hoy para nuestra parroquia: ¡Anunciamos que estamos comprando un nuevo órgano! No puedo expresar adecuadamente lo emocionado que estoy por este proyecto que ha sido la culminación de mucho trabajo en los últimos años. Será instalado en septiembre. ¡Te vas a sorprender! Después de 52 años, el órgano viejo ha sobrevivido más del doble de la vida esperada de un órgano electrónico, y ya no produce la calidad de sonido para la que fue hecho. Además, nuestro programa de música parroquial – siempre un punto de gran orgullo para nuestra parroquia – ha crecido increíblemente en los últimos cuatro años, convirtiéndose verdaderamente en una de las mejores de cualquier parroquia católica en todo el estado. Es hora de que nuestro órgano apoye también esa calidad.

Una última gran noticia: Este verano la parroquia recibirá a un seminarista por primera vez en varios años, el Sr. Caleb Kruse. ¡Espero presentártelo! Estará aquí desde mayo 13 hasta principios de agosto.

¡San Juan Evangelista, ruega por nosotros! ¡Aleluya, verdaderamente Él ha resucitado!
