Pastor's Weekly Update: Nov. 8, 2020

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I’m sure that I am not the only one who is relieved to have survived what many people are calling our country’s most divisive election season ever. New public officials have been elected to serve our community, state, and country. Each one of us may be happy about the outcomes, or we may not. Regardless, we should all be praying that our new leaders will work to heal the divisions in our communities and in our country, and that they will lead and legislate in a manner concordant with the natural law and revealed truth.

What a perfect time for me to go on retreat and disconnect from the world! I will be going with a brother priest to spend the rest of this week at the Carmelite Monastery of the Holy Name in Denmark, Wisconsin. I have been greatly looking forward to this time of spiritual renewal and totally technological disconnection. Please pray that it is a time of authentic encounter with the risen Lord.

This week we are making a final push towards achieving our parish’s goal for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. With every individual or family’s commitment, we will make and exceed our goal! Any money pledged over our goal of $80,000 will offset the losses we have incurred due to higher operating costs and lower collections over the past few months. 100% participation is the most important key to success! Don’t you want to be a part of this winning team?

Recent read: Responding to Suicide: A pastoral handbook for Catholic leaders edited by Ed Shoener and John P. Dolan. This recently released book helps priests, deacons, and other Catholics to lovingly support those who have lost a loved one through suicide.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Estoy seguro de que no soy el único que se siente aliviado de haber sobrevivido a lo que mucha gente está llamando la temporada de elecciones más divisiva de nuestro país. Nuevos funcionarios públicos han sido elegidos para servir a nuestra comunidad, estado y país. Puede que unos de nosotros este feliz por los resultados, o puede que no. A pesar de ello, todos debemos orar para que nuestros nuevos líderes trabajen para curar las divisiones en nuestras comunidades y en nuestro país, y que guíen y legislarán de una manera concordante con la ley natural y la verdad revelada.

¡Qué momento perfecto para mí para ir a retiro y desconectarme del mundo! Iré con un hermano sacerdote para pasar el resto de esta semana en el Monasterio Carmelita del Santo Nombre en Denmark, Wisconsin. He estado esperando mucho este tiempo de renovación espiritual y desconexión totalmente de la tecnológica. Por favor, oren para que sea un tiempo de encuentro auténtico con el Señor resucitado.

Esta semana estamos haciendo un último intento para lograr la meta de nuestra parroquia para la Apelación Anual del Obispo. ¡Con el compromiso de cada individuo o familia, haremos y superaremos nuestro objetivo! Cualquier dinero sobre nuestra meta de $80,000 compensará las pérdidas en las que hemos incurrido debido a mayores costos de operación y menores cobros en los últimos meses. ¡La participación del 100%
