Pastor's Weekly Message: Sunday, May 9th

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mothers, expectant mothers, godmothers, and all those who share in the vocation of motherhood! We commend you to the prayers of our Blessed Mother Mary today and give thanks to God for the way that you fulfill your vocation.

We also remember all those women who long to share in this celebration. For those who experience the cross of infertility, know that we pray for you today, and that we love and support you! Many more people experience this reality than we imagine. Know that you are not alone!

We pray today as well for all expectant mothers, especially those for whom the choice loving to accept their child was not easy. We are grateful for their witness to life! Regardless of their circumstances, we should lovingly embrace all mothers who choose life for their children.

A reminder that this Thursday, May 13th, we will host a Solemn Extraordinary Form (Latin) Mass for the Feast of the Lord’s Ascension. It will be great to celebrate this feast on its traditional date, exactly 40 days after Easter. Hopefully you can join us on the 13th at 6 p.m. for this beautiful Mass. Translations in English and Spanish will be available and the sermon will be bilingual. Our choir is working hard to prepare more beautiful music.

These past two Sundays we have been counting the number of attendees at each Mass to determine our capacity needs during the summer, particularly for our Masses in Spanish. It is possible that we might not need the 3 p.m. Mass during the summer months. We will be sure to give everyone a couple weeks’ notice before making any changes.

Recent read: First Things February 2021. This issue included articles on: Praying the psalms, St. Edmund Campion and contemporary philosophy, the myth of the sixties, the issue of race in evangelical faith communities, Lincoln’s theology of providence and covenant, an economic analysis of clerical celibacy, and contemporary fascination with revolution.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

¡Feliz Día de la Madre a todas nuestras madres, madres embarazadas, madrinas y a todas aquellas que comparten la vocación de la maternidad! Hoy os felicitamos a las oraciones de nuestra Santísima Madre María y damos gracias a Dios por la forma en que cumples vuestra vocación. Hoy las encomendamos a las oraciones de nuestra Santísima Madre María y damos gracias a Dios por la manera en que cumplís vuestra vocación.

También recordamos a todas aquellas mujeres que anhelan compartir esta celebración. ¡Para aquellas que experimentan la cruz de la infertilidad, sepan que oramos por ustedes hoy, y que las amamos y apoyamos! Muchas más personas experimentan esta realidad de lo que imaginamos. ¡Sepa que no está sola!

Oramos hoy también por todas las futuras madres, especialmente aquellas para quienes la elección de amar a aceptar a su hijo no fue fácil. ¡Estamos agradecidos por su testimonio de vida! Independientemente de sus circunstancias, debemos abrazar amorosamente a todas las madres que eligen la vida para sus hijos.

Un recordatorio de que este jueves, 13 de mayo, organizaremos una misa solemne de forma extraordinaria (latín) para la fiesta de la Ascensión del Señor. Será genial celebrar esta fiesta en su fecha tradicional, exactamente 40 días después de Semana Santa. Esperemos que pueda unirse a nosotros el día 13 a las 6 p.m. para esta hermosa misa. Nuestro coro está trabajando duro para preparar música más hermosa.

Estos dos últimos domingos hemos estado contando el número de asistentes a cada misa para determinar nuestras necesidades de capacidad durante el verano, especialmente para nuestras misas en español. Es posible que no necesitemos la misa de 3 p.m. durante el verano. Nos aseguraremos de avisar a todos con un par de semanas de anticipación antes de hacer cualquier cambio.

¡San Juan Evangelista, ruega por nosotros! ¡Verdaderamente, Él ha resucitado, Aleluya!
