Pastor's Weekly Message: Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

We have a happy coincidence today of Gaudete Sunday – when we are called to “Rejoice!” in the middle of Advent – with Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Blessed Mother is a model of rejoicing at the manifestation of God’s plan for humanity and for our lives individually as we prepare for Christ’s coming both at Bethlehem and at the end of time.

Today at two of our Masses (one in English and one in Spanish) we are introducing you to our Implementation Management Team for our Parish Priority Plan. This team is guiding the implementation of the plan that was created by our Envisioning Team last year, seeking to renew our parish in three important areas:

· Marriage and Family Formation

· Making Disciples Through Relationships

· Unity of Purpose

This team takes the place of our former “Parish Pastoral Council” in a more united, action-oriented process that seeks to involve our whole parish in a process of renewal.

We are excited to share a new resource starting today. In the pews, you will have noticed a red hardback book. These books are a permanent replacement to the disposable missalettes that we used to provide for following the readings at Mass. Each Sunday, the board in front of the St. Joseph shrine will have the page number of that Sunday’s readings. Using these books instead of the missalettes has several advantages:

· Is more respectful to the Word of God, rather than continually disposing of sacred texts.

· Will save our parish about $10,000 / year after the first three years of ownership.

· Is more ecologically conscious.

Please do not remove the books from the pews. We do not have extras to supply for any purpose other than keeping the books in the pews. If you would like a copy for yourself, you can find them on the website of International Library Publications. You can also always find the readings for Mass in English and Spanish at home on the website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (usccb.org). Formed.org also provides great reflections on the Sunday readings to assist your prayer.

This week we will have some extra confession times: 2-4 p.m. on Thursday and Friday afternoons. We also now have confessions on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. Please do not wait until the last minute for your Advent confession!

Recent read: What It Means to Be Human: The case for the body in public bioethics by O. Carter Snead. This is an excellent new book that argues for Catholic teachings on bioethics with new arguments that could speak more to the contemporary mind.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,

Hoy tenemos una feliz coincidencia del Domingo de Gaudete, cuando estamos llamados a "¡regocijarnos!" en medio del Adviento, con Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. La Santísima Madre es un modelo de regocijo ante la manifestación del plan de Dios para la humanidad y para nuestras vidas individualmente mientras nos preparamos para la llegada de Jesucristo tanto en Belén como al final de los tiempos.

Hoy en dos de nuestras Misas (una en inglés y otra en español) les presentamos a nuestro Equipo de Gestión de la Implementación para nuestro Plan de Prioridad Parroquial. Este equipo está guiando la implementación del plan que fue creado por nuestro Equipo de Visión el año pasado, buscando renovar nuestra parroquia en tres áreas importantes:

•Formación matrimonial y familiar

•Hacer discípulos a través de las relaciones

•Unidad de propósito

Este equipo toma el lugar de nuestro antiguo "Consejo Pastoral Parroquial" en un proceso más unido y orientado a la acción que busca involucrar a toda nuestra parroquia en un proceso de renovación.

Estamos entusiasmados de compartir un nuevo recurso a partir de hoy. En las bancas, habrás notado un libro rojo de tapa dura. Estos libros son un reemplazo permanente de los misalettes desechables que solíamos proporcionar para seguir las lecturas en la Misa. Cada domingo, el tablero frente al santuario de San José tendrá el número de página de las lecturas de ese domingo. El uso de estos libros en lugar de los missalettes tiene varias ventajas:

•Es más respetuoso con la Palabra de Dios, en vez de deshacerse continuamente de textos sagrados.

•Salvará a nuestra parroquia alrededor de $10.000 / año después de los tres primeros años de propiedad.

• Es más ecológico.

Por favor, no quite los libros de las bancas. No tenemos extras para suministrar para ningún otro propósito que no sea mantener los libros en las bancas. Si desea una copia para usted, puede encontrarla en el sitio web de International Library Publications. También puedes encontrar las lecturas de la Misa en inglés y en español en el sitio web de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos (usccb.org). Formed.org también ofrece grandes reflexiones sobre las lecturas dominicales para ayudar con su oración.

Esta semana tendremos algunos horarios adicionales de confesión: el jueves y viernes de 2-4 p.m. por la tarde. Ahora también tenemos confesiones los sábados por la mañana a las 9 a.m. ¡Por favor, no esperes hasta el último minuto para tu confesión de Adviento!
